ZoneAlarm Clean Uninstall

Postby CS2 on 08-08-2005 10:42 am

If there is something wrong with the installation of ZoneAlarm then a basic re-install won't fix it. You would need to do a complete uninstall and re-install of ZoneAlarm using the following method...

<b>STEP 1:</b>
If you don't have the latest version of ZoneAlarm then you can download it from one of the following website:
http://www.manac.com.au/Support/zone/za-downloads.html

<b>STEP 2:</b>
Click START >> PROGRAMS (or ALL PROGRAMS) >> ZONE LABS, then right-click on UNINSTALL ZONE LABS SECURITY and select PROPERTIES. In the Properties window type a space and then "/clean" (no quotes) in the Target so that it looks like "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean...

<i>Note: If uninstalling ZoneAlarm like this doesn't work or you don't have Zone Labs in you START >> PROGRAMS menu, then skip strait to Step 4.</i>

<b>STEP 3:</b>
Now click START >> PROGRAMS (or ALL PROGRAMS) >> ZONE LABS >> UNINSTALL ZONE LABS SECURITY to uninstall ZoneAlarm completely and then reboot the computer when the uninstall finishes.

<b>STEP 4:</b>
Click START >> SEARCH and then search the entire hard drive (C:) for the following files and folders. You will need to search for hidden files and folders for this. To include hidden files and folders in the search, go into the advanced search options and adjust the settings appropriately.

Type the following exactly and delete files and folders found:

vsconfig.xml
zlcommdb.dll
zlcomm.dll
vsxml.dll
vsdb.dll
vsregexp.dll
vsdata.dll
imsinstall.dll
imlsp.dll
vsdata95.vxd
vsdatant.sys
zllictbl.dat
vsmon.*
vsmonapi.dll
vsnetutils.dll
vspubapi.dll
zaplus.*
zapro.*
[CENSORED].dll
zonealarm.exe
zoneband.dll
vsinit.dll
vsutil.dll (Important: Right-click this file and select 'Properties', then select the 'Version' tab and make sure it's a ZA file. Do NOT delete this file unless it is a Zone Labs file.)

<b>STEP 5:</b>
Open My Computer, navigate to the following folders and delete the contents of these folders (don't delete the actual folders themselves):

C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\

<b>STEP 6:</b>
Click the following link and then click RUN or OPEN to download and run a file that will remove ZoneAlarm from the Windows Registry...
http://mail.manac.com.au/zonealarm/remove_za.reg

When you are asked if you would like to add the information to the registry, click YES.

<i>Note: If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, then you'll need to right-click the link and select SAVE TARGET AS, then run the file from your computer.</i>

Now reboot the computer again.

<b>STEP 7:</b>
Once the computer has finished booting up again, double-click the file that you downloaded previously to re-install the latest version of ZoneAlarm.
