Internet Download Basics

If you are new to the Internet, you may be struggling to cope with downloading files and using them on your computer.

Using a typical download (we use a imaginary 'Myfile' here as an example), we show the procedure step-by-step.

Step #1:

Locate the link to the file you want to download.
This will be in the form of a small computer icon -- -- << like this -- or in the form of an underlined blue-coloured text -- like this. The page links above are an example of this type of link.

Often, the two will appear together, -- < Download -- like this.

Click on the Link to start the download procedure.   A Windows (or other operating system) Requester will appear.

File Download.

This means you have two options -- you can open the file or save it to disk.   Click 'save to disk.'

Two things you should remember here:

1.   Different operating systems show this layout differently, and the wording may be slightly different.
2.   'Save to disk' does NOT necessarily mean to a 3½" floppy disk.  As you will see, it is easy to save to the computer's (internal) hard-drive.

Click 'OK'.
